2025 Brouwer Process Technologies for Urea Fertilizers enriched with Sulphur related nutrients

Sulphur (S) deficiency occurs widely in many parts of the world, due to a combination of factors. Fertilizers enriched with S are now increasingly used to correct sulphur deficiencies. A better source of S may be ammonium sulphate (AS), which makes the S available in a form that can be directly taken up by plants. By itself, AS is less attractive as a fertilizer for fertilising purposes, due to its relatively low nitrogen (N) content (21%) and its high S content. But, by combining AS with urea, it is possible to produce fertilizers with N and S concentrations suited to specific requirements of crops. Urea fertilizer is characterised by significant loss of N (up to 70%) due to its high mobility in the environment. The main problems associated with low Nutrient Use Efficiency are a significant impact on climate change and possible environmental toxicity, eutrophication and nitrate pollution, ozone and air quality degradation, and emissions of greenhouse gases.
A N plus S fertilizer can enhance the utilisation rate of N due to their well-known synergy; plants need sufficient levels of S to be able to utilise N efficiently. Together, N and S are vital building blocks for protein, so N and S should be applied at the same time.
The challenge when adding AS to urea melt is its limited solubility, and thus for high N/S ratios a slurry needs to be handled. With S the challenge is different but no less difficult. This paper will describe which production technologies are available to produce these high value urea with elemental sulphur and urea with ammonium sulphate Fertilizers and which reference installations are already available for each.

LESER - Application-based safety valves for urea plants

The synthesis section of a urea plant is core to produce urea with safely and with high on-stream times. The safety valves applied in this section must be resistant to the high corrosiveness and the tendency to crystallisation of the carbamate to be processed. The LESER Urea Synthesis Safety Valve sets in at these key requirements for the synthesis process.
With the LESER Support Loading System Technology significant higher synthesis operating pressures and related higher conversion figures can be realised while realising 75% less emissions during a blow off situation.

MPC2 - Very Successful Steps Forward!

In recent weeks, we have had several high-profile visitors to our new corrosion laboratory in Leoben.

In May, we were qualified as a new supplier for corrosion testing by one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-tech sheet metal, voestalpine BÖHLER Bleche, and are currently already processing their first orders.

At the beginning of June, we welcomed Dr. Aleksandra Gavrilović-Wohlmuther from our long-standing customer Schoeller-Bleckmann Nitec GmbH to our new laboratory and presented our latest investment plans and the resulting new testing capabilities.

Last but not least, we have also been qualified by two of the leading licensors in the urea industry and have already secured further orders.

We are grateful for the trust you have placed in us and look forward to continuing our collaboration!
